From Individual Perspectives to Shared Priorities and Better Decisions

When you ask employees or stakeholders what needs improving, you often get a long list of important issues. The difficult part is deciding which ones matter most. Pairwise comparison makes people choose between alternatives, helping you see the shared priorities and decide where to start.

Why surveys don't always show where to focus

Surveys can tell you a great deal about what people think. But when many issues receive similar scores, it can be difficult to decide which ones deserve attention first.

01

The 1–5 rating scale trap

When respondents rate 30 statements on a 1–5 scale, almost every item lands between 3.8 and 4.3. Leadership is left guessing whether a 4.1 is meaningfully more urgent than a 3.9.

02

When people can only choose a few priorities

Asking people to select only their top 5 items leaves 80% of topics unmeasured. You lose visibility into how the rest of the organisation views the remaining challenges.

03

When the loudest voices dominate

In open meetings and chat threads, the loudest or most senior voices often steer the conclusion while quiet operational realities across teams go unheard.

How pairwise comparison turns opinions into priorities

Whether you start with a ready-made statement set or collect open ideas first, the prioritisation process follows four disciplined steps.

Step 01 · Frame & Invite

Start with statements or an open question

For established themes (such as workplace wellbeing, leadership, or sustainability), we start with calibrated statements. For unique strategic challenges, participants first submit open proposals which are curated into a clean comparison set.

In practice: Participants receive a simple link on mobile or desktop—no accounts, passwords, or training required.
Step 02 · Compare in Pairs

Let participants compare what matters most

Instead of rating items in isolation, participants are shown two statements at a time and choose which one matters more. In our diagnostic products, participants compare pairs in two quick rounds: first for the Ideal State (what is most important) and second for the Current State (what works well today).

In practice: Completing 15–20 pair choices takes only 5–7 minutes per person while giving every statement equal exposure.
Step 03 · Synthesise Win Rates & Gaps

See the priorities and where the gaps are

We combine individual choices into a clear ranking of shared priorities. When participants compare both the ideal and current state, we can also show the gaps between what matters most and how things work today.

In practice: Each statement is placed on a 4-quadrant Dynamic Gap Map: FIX (high importance, low current reality), BUILD ON STRENGTHS (high importance, strong today), ANALYSE, and ACCEPT.
Step 04 · Compare Groups & Decide

Compare groups and decide what to do next

Leadership can compare how executive management, supervisors, operational teams, or external stakeholders view the exact same topics. Seeing where perspectives align or diverge makes it easy to agree on the top priorities and assign clear ownership.

In practice: Repeating the process over time turns one-off surveys into a continuous management routine: Prioritise → Decide → Act → Follow-up.

See what matters most and where to focus

The results show what participants consider most important, how different groups see the same issues and where the biggest improvement opportunities are.
